News: Chris Archer becomes Dodgers special assistant.

A two-time All-Star in a 10-year big league career, Chris Archer informed the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Monday that he joined the Dodgers as a baseball operations assistant.

I can learn and help younger guys "Archer told the Post-Gazette. Player development, scouting, analytics, roster construction, draft, trade—everything I can learn from that standpoint to decide whether to work in player development or the front office.

During Archer's 2012 major league debut with Tampa Bay, Andrew Friedman was the Rays' general manager.

I took satisfaction in taking the ball even when I wasn't feeling well, Archer told the Post-Gazette. I dunno if I would have pushed the brakes here and there. I drained the tank. I'm content. I was unhappy when things weren't going well. In retrospect, I'm happy and appreciative for my opportunity."

Archer had All-Star appearances in 2015 and 2017 with the Rays (2012-18, 2021), Pirates (2018-19), and Twins (2022).

In 243 games, all but three starts, he went 63-89 with a 3.93 ERA, 1,454 strikeouts, and 476 walks in 1,357 innings.

He only appeared in two playoff games, pitching 1 2/3 shutout innings for the Rays against the Red Sox in the 2013 ALDS.
