Georgia-Alabama predictions: Expert 2023 SEC championship game choices

No. 1 Georgia will play No. 8 Alabama in the SEC championship game, which has College Football Playoff implications.

The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide have played four Atlanta games in seven seasons. A trio of games determined the SEC title. A fourth in 2017 decided the national title. The 2020 and 2021 playoff championship games were played in Tuscaloosa and Indianapolis, respectively.

Georgia won the first of its consecutive national titles in the sixth matchup after Alabama won the first five.

With a win this season, the Bulldogs will return to the playoffs and be two victories from a record third title. If things go well on the last weekend, the Crimson Tide might upset its eastern rivals and win a semifinal berth.

A dramatic end to the SEC's penultimate season before Oklahoma and Texas expansion is expected. Here are our game predictions.

If At the end of the Auburn game, Jalen Milroe said he wanted to win the Heisman Trophy, and now he must use his arm and feet. Georgia might lose and still make the playoffs, but they want to beat the top team in the nation.

The Bulldogs will start sluggish but dominate in the second half, ending Milroe's Heisman hopes and boosting Carson Beck into the final rankings, even if he won't win. Georgia 35, Alabama 17.

In the last stretch, I thought Alabama may upset Georgia. Alabama narrowly survived rivalry weekend against Auburn, who fell to New Mexico State the week before. However, rivalry games can be unpredictable, and Alabama and Georgia, given how the Bulldogs handled Georgia Tech, were certainly looking ahead to this weekend.
